Electricity choice gives electricity users in deregulated states, or states open to competition, the power to choose their electricity supplier. 

This means that you can choose who you buy electricity from and what type of energy you purchase (e.g., environmentally-friendly or standard power).

Similar to phone companies delivering long distance service, utility companies are responsible for delivering electricity through power lines to all consumers. However in states open to competition, consumers can choose to buy power from an alternate supplier like ConEdison Solutions.

Electricity choice provides consumers with opportunities to lower energy costs, secure a stable fixed price for electricity, choose environmentally-friendly power alternatives, and gain control over energy spending, all without affecting the reliability of service.
